The Power of a Hug

Hugging is uncommon in our local culture. However, one of the languages of love for some is physical touch.

According to author Dr Gary Chapman, there are five languages of love, namely:

1. Words of affirmation
2. Quality time
3. Physical touch
4. Acts of service
5. Receiving gifts

One of the most beautiful sight I have ever seen on physical touch was years ago when my mum was warded in hospital. Across the room, there was an elderly lady who looked quite ill. When her children came visiting, they gave her a big hug.

What amazed me was that hers were all middle-aged sons and they hugged her unashamedly.

That act of hugs left a deep impression in my mind about her family. The hug said it all, more than any words can express.

Do you know what is your primary language of love? Make that known to someone close to you.
